Jim and Christ Ochs at Cars Yeah Podcast

Jim and Chris Ochs are brothers and the Founders of Car Corral, an online automotive auction company that provides the perfect blend of excitement, variety, and community surrounding the world of automobiles. Jim and Chris grew up in Colorado in a family with eight kids, Chris being the oldest of the clan. Chris is a third-generation union carpenter, a licensed aircraft mechanic, a car builder and die-hard enthusiast. He helped his dad restore a 1930 Chevrolet Sedan back in 1977 when he was only 13 years old and the car bug bit him hard. Jim has always been fascinated with all things mechanical and got the car but from his older brothers, aka the ‘Duke Boys’, and brings his passion to the Car Corral auction site.

Car Corral – A New Playground

1931 Ford

It takes a lot to reinvent the wheel, and while Car Corral isn’t exactly seeking to do that, it is looking to bring back a sense of normalcy and enthusiasm to the online car auction format. Case in point, browsing the cars on auction right now range from a Plymouth Superbird to the 1962 Corvette to a 1931 Ford pickup to a Toyota Tacoma to a Willys Jeep to a Metro to a Mazda RX7 convertible – on and on it goes, all over the board, it’s a hoot just poking around on the website.

The big question on many people’s minds though is why do this? It’s an uphill battle that’s already top heavy with competition – the Ochs family has a basic response, which is they wanted to give real enthusiasts a place to sell their cars. So many online forums now are requiring larger sums of money, or multiple cars, or cars of extremely rare interest – you know, a nicely sorted Ford Taurus SHO need not apply. But that’s not the case at the Car Corral. Here, the insanely rare and exotic are as welcome as the hopped-up Honda Civic or beautifully aged F100. Take a look at some of their offerings below, maybe you’ve got a car or two you’d like to sell!

An Alternative to BAT

CarCorral.auction launched recently with a smattering of unique cars on offer, ranging from a blacked-out, mid-80s FoxBody Mustang to a winged Plymouth Superbird and a few customs. CarCorral.auction has a number of interesting benefits to buyers and sellers, including pricing, which might be another reason to consider them over not just BAT, but other competitors in the market.

With 7-, 10-, and 14-day listing options, sellers pay a commission of $85, $105, or $135 respectively. The buyer’s premium is a simple 4.5 percent of the winning bid with a minimum bid of $200 and a maximum of $4,500. In other words, if you spend a million dollars on a car, you only pay 4.5 percent against the first $4,500.

Garage Style magazine covered the launch recently here and they’re hoping to see more activity as an alternative to Bring a Trailer, which has had a number of complaints against it of becoming far too corporate, far too interested in dealership business, and simply losing the car guy feel. Hopefully we can bring back that feeling.
