The product of a young Hollywood producer who was captivated by a Ghia-designed Fiat 2300, he convinced both Plymouth and Ghia to work with one another and build an exclusive, dreamy sportscar.  That car would be the Ghia 450 SS, a two-seat convertible with a handmade body and interior that was based heavily on the Plymouth Barracuda S.  Costing as much as $13,000 at a time when the Porsche 911S was commanding just shy of $6,000 and the mighty 427-powered Corvette was stickering for about $5,000, the 450 SS was indeed not for the financially faint of heart.

Showing about 75,000 miles on the odometer, this Ghia 450 SS is said to be the only example ever finished in yellow.  As with so many specialty cars of the era, numbers vary, and it’s been said that 50, 52, or 57 Ghia 450 SS were produced, so needless to say, it’s an exceedingly rare car – but the opportunity to acquire the only yellow one built is truly a remarkable.  The black interior features bucket seats, a center console, and a racy dashboard with full instrumentation.

The Plymouth Barracuda S supplied a large amount of the mechanical components for the 450 SS, including the 275 HP 273 CI V-8 engine and automatic transmission.  In fact, the roughly 4.5L displacement is where the 450 SS got its name from.

Said to be a matching-numbers vehicle, it is entirely street legal and is said to suffer from zero rust, has never been involved in an accident, and has never had any paint or bodywork done.

Rarely do 450 SS appear on the market, making this a great chance to own a piece of automotive history.  But, the fact that it’s known to be the only yellow one built makes the opportunity even more stunning.
